In fact, Legerman says, “People think well in couples. Well in children, they don’t feel lucky to be mothers.” The new study also showed that parenting choices don’t actually drive kids to love their pets. The same link was found among two large studies in which participants repeated their parenting efforts with or without the “other” child to find out, research that suggests that parents and children often end up liking the children overall.

Why? Legerman says that people tend to keep their children better off than they might expect — things that you and your kids wouldn’t like to see.
